Kidane Haile Charged in Tragic Buffalo Fire That Claimed the Lives of Mother and Newborn Child

A tragic incident unfolded in Buffalo, New York, on the morning of October 18, 2025, when emergency responders were called to a house fire at 428 Norwood Avenue.

Upon their arrival at 8:35 a.m., firefighters contained the fire to the first floor of a two-and-a-half-story home.

Inside, the bodies of 29-year-old Kathleen Carrig and her four-day-old baby, Noah, were found unresponsive. They were later pronounced dead at the scene.

Kathleen, a mother full of promise, and her newborn son’s deaths have devastated the local community.

Authorities discovered that the fire was not the only tragedy. Following an investigation, Erie County District Attorney’s Office revealed that Kidane Haile, Kathleen’s boyfriend and Noah’s father, was charged with second-degree murder for Kathleen’s death.

Medical examiners determined that Kathleen’s death resulted from asphyxia due to strangulation, which occurred before the fire.

The cause of baby Noah’s death remains under investigation.

Haile, who suffered serious injuries from smoke inhalation, was transported to a nearby hospital.

He was held without bail after being released from the hospital.

The devastating fire caused approximately $100,000 in damages to the property.

The Buffalo community continues to mourn the loss of a young mother and her newborn child. Friends, family, and neighbors are left seeking answers and justice.
